Level Up and E-games Merged

I’m almost out from the Philippine MMORPG community as I’m hooked with starcraft 2 and other console games. Today, an unexpected news I heard which involves two giant companies in the gaming industry here in the Philippines. Levelup PH merged with E-games. Wow! that was my reaction upon hearing it from my friend.

Here’s the Press release copy shown below :

MAKATI, Philippines; 14 February 2012 – IP E-Game Ventures Inc. (E-Games) and Level Up! Inc. (LUI) have reached an agreement to merge their Philippine online game publishing businesses.

In accordance with the agreement, most of E-Game’s titles and assets relating to its game publishing business will be transferred to LUI and the publishing operations of said titles will be merged into LUI’s associated online game publishing company, Playweb Games Inc. In exchange, E-Games will receive equity in LUI, a commercial interest in Playweb Games Inc. (game publisher and operator of all LUI game titles and services), and a cash consideration. The completion of the deal is subject to closing conditions.

E-Games is the first listed online gaming company in the Philippines (PSE: EG) and is the only such listed company to date. It spearheaded the free-to-play game model and has over 15.9 million registered gamers and an average of 3.5 million active users per month. It is aggressively expanding its Internet café network through acquisitions (Netopia and CyBr cafes) and franchising and will incorporate other services such as food & beverage and remittance services. Recently, E-Games has also acquired the rights to operate and sell advertisements for the NBA.com Philippine portal. It is currently developing game enhancement technologies between its Internet cafes and online games titles and is eager to extend these synergies with LUI online games.

LUI pioneered the online game business in the Philippines. Its parent company, Level Up! International Holdings (LUIH), has a subsidiary in Brazil which likewise pioneered and leads the online game publishing business there. Aside from its presence in the Philippines and Brazil, LUIH also has a joint venture in the United States with an established Korean developer.

E-Games and LUI, as a merged entity, are expected to account for the majority of the Philippine online games market. The merged entity and its associated company, Playweb Games, Inc., will have the widest gaming pre-paid cards and PINs distribution network and offer a portfolio of hugely popular and successful games between them. These include top Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) such as Cabal, Audition, Pointblank, Ragnarok, Grand Chase, Rohan and newly launched (by LUI) Bounty Hounds.

The merger is expected to strategically benefit both companies as a result of future operational synergies and savings.

Tera Online will be out May 1, 2012

I’ve been following Tera Online  for quite sometimes now and it looks from the trailers, interviews, news, its different kind of MMO. From their website video on the frontpage the company is boasting that Tera is for  gamers that want or looking to step up on MMO experience. You may want to check the video below.

They describe Tera online as a next-generation massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) set in a richly imagined fantasy universe. TERA ushers in a ground-breaking interactive combat system that allows you to respond instantly to real-time combat conditions. Unlike faction-based games, TERA unites players everywhere against truly dangerous foes: rampaging monsters, insidious demons, and the many horrors of a world torn apart by the gods.

The below Beta Trailer is the actual in-game look and feel of the game.

The game can now be pre-ordered at their official website : http://tera.enmasse.com/preorder

DC Universe Online Review – First Glance

After hearing that DC Universe can be played for free I decided to check on it and download the 14.1GIG game installer. With my limited internet speed of 1MBPS it took me 24+ hours  to finish the entire download.

DC Universe Online is an online game where you can create your own hero or villain characters and fight with or against your favorite DC characters across the DC Universe. The story evolves on Brainiac taking the Universe VS the DC heroes. This is a  joint video game project from Sony Online Entertainment, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC comics. Originally a pay-to-play MMO on both PlayStation 3 and PC but Sony Entertainment tried to open it as a P2P business model last November 1, 2011.

The excitement will just go up upon seeing the cinematic Intro of DC Universe Online. Its really great. Create your first character is also interesting. Some features includes : Choosing between Hero or Villain then Gender then Personality like Powerful, Serious, Primal, Flirty. You also need to pick mentor from Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Then ofcourse your initial power like Fire, Gadgets, Ice and Mental. Then type of Movement (Flight, Acrobatic, Super-Speed). You may pick your weapon too from Bow,  Brawling, Dual Pistol, Dual Wield. Not just that there are also options for Costume, Built, Inspired by some known super heroes or villain like Superman, Batman, Cat woman and Lex luthor. Body, colors,  gears, Face, Head, Emblem, Chest can also be modified.

I ran this DC Universe Online using an old AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-core 2.6GHz with 4 GIG RAM and a 1GIG video Card ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series on Windows 7 64-bit. So far I cannot complain and no slowing of any of my game play experience.

You begin your journey in DCUO in Brainiac’s ship and you need to get out of there. This is for the Hero part and I’m not sure if playing villain would change the intro. Movement can be easily recognizable especially if you are already playing other MMORPG titles. Some superb voice actors are nicely recorded.

The graphics can be rated as 9 out of 10. Its vibrant, its impressive and it adding to the overall gaming experience to the players who are playing this game.  It has also some fast action-based combat animation, skills, super heroes and villain powers that can be appreciated by the players as well.

My highest character is only Level 11 and since this is just my first glance review I cannot go on details as I haven’t explored the DC Universe that much yet but I can say right now the game is interesting and would make a lasting appeal to the players. I got hundreds of screen captured images and will be posting some of it here.
